What is TikTok ad credit?
TikTok ad credit is promotional balance that TikTok applies against your advertising charges. TikTok calls this the acquisition incentive program for new advertisers. The credit is attached to your ad account by TikTok, and it is not a coupon code you find on a deals site and paste into checkout.
This is the single most misunderstood part of the topic. Most articles ranking for this term present ad credit as a giveaway with a headline number attached. In reality TikTok is subsidizing part of your spend to get you advertising, so nearly every offer requires you to spend your own money first.
There are two coupon structures, and knowing which one you have changes how you should budget.
Ladder coupon (spend X, get Y)
You accumulate out-of-pocket spend during an earning window. When you cross a qualifying tier, TikTok issues the matching reward. TikTok's published example is a spend $100, get $50 and spend $500, get $300 offer running for 30 days. Register on March 6 and the window runs March 6 to April 5.
Hitting the top tier issues the reward within 1 to 3 business days. Lower tiers are issued after the window closes. Every reward carries its own expiration date, which is where most of this credit quietly goes to waste.
Discount coupon (a% off, up to b)
A percentage of each charge is deducted automatically with no minimum spend, until a maximum subsidy is reached. On a 50% off up to $100 offer, spending $200 costs you $100. Spend $250 and you pay $150, because the $100 subsidy cap is already exhausted.
How to get TikTok ad credit.
The credit is granted at registration. That single fact drives everything else, because it means the opportunity closes the moment you finish creating an account through a route that carries no offer.
- Register from an official entry point. TikTok names landing pages on the getstarted.tiktok.com and ads.tiktok.com domains. If an offer is displayed during registration, the coupon is issued immediately when the account is created.
- Complete Business Verification. Unverified accounts hit spend and delivery limits that make it hard to clear an earning window in time.
- Find the coupon in your account. In Ads Manager, open Tools, then Payments, then Promotions. There is also a ticket icon in the top-right of the Ads Manager interface. This page shows coupon details, validity, and which ad products qualify.
- Read the earning window before you launch. The clock starts at first spend, not at account creation. Work out the daily budget that clears your target tier inside the window before you turn anything on.
- Spend the issued credit before it expires. Check Coupon Progress, then Details, then Expiration. Credit you earned and never spent is worth nothing.
If no promotion appears during registration, there is no active offer for your region right now. No coupon code exists that will create one, and any site claiming to sell you one is not selling something TikTok issues.
How TikTok Shop sellers claim ad credit.
TikTok Shop sellers follow a completely different path, and almost no article covering this topic mentions it. Most TikTok Shop sellers receive an advertiser account automatically, so the Ads Manager registration flow described above never applies to them.
- Open Seller Center and go to Marketing, then Shop Ads.
- Connect the advertiser account shown, or create one if you do not have it yet.
- Once connected, eligible promotions appear as a banner. In some regions you redeem manually with a "join now" prompt. In others enrollment is automatic and you see "create campaign" instead.
- Where enrollment is automatic, the coupon is issued once you publish your first GMV Max campaign, and appears under Account Management on the GMV Max account.
- Track it in Seller Center under Marketing, Shop Ads, Ads Dashboard, Coupon Progress.
TikTok lists acquisition incentives as available in every region where TikTok Shop operates: the US, UK, Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Japan, France, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Mexico, and Brazil.
Who actually qualifies for TikTok ad credit?
Eligibility is narrower than the marketing around it suggests. TikTok is explicit that incentives are reserved for new advertisers, and that accounts identified as highly similar to existing or previously active advertisers may not be eligible.
| Situation | Likely eligible? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Brand new to TikTok advertising | Yes | Register from an official entry point and check for a promotion banner before finishing signup. |
| New TikTok Shop seller, never advertised | Yes | Connect the advertiser account in Seller Center, then look for the promotion banner under Shop Ads. |
| Existing advertiser, want a second coupon | No | A new ad account under a Business Center that already used the incentive does not qualify again. |
| Agency opening an account for a client | Depends | The client's advertiser entity must be genuinely new. Accounts resembling a prior advertiser can be excluded. |
| Account in a region with no active offer | No | No banner means no offer. Availability changes, so recheck rather than hunting for a code. |
*Based on TikTok's published eligibility rules for the new advertiser incentive program, last updated June 2026. TikTok states incentives are not guaranteed, may vary by region and availability, and may change without notice.
One more constraint worth planning around: TikTok reserves the right to withhold or withdraw ad credits, including where content does not comply with its advertising policies. A coupon is not a guarantee of delivery, so budget as though the credit may not arrive.
How to spend TikTok ad credit without wasting it.
The failure mode with ad credit is not missing the offer. It is clearing a spend tier with campaigns that never had the creative to convert, then watching the earned credit expire while you are still trying to fix the funnel.
Credit compresses your learning window. It does not fix a weak offer, a thin product page, or a shortage of usable video. Get those in place first, because the window starts when you first spend and it does not pause.
- Have creative ready before you spend a dollar. TikTok ad performance is creative-bound. Going into an earning window with one or two videos means you burn the window testing placement instead of testing hooks.
- Work backwards from the tier and the clock. If the offer is spend $500 in 30 days, that is roughly $17 a day. Set the daily budget that clears the tier deliberately rather than discovering on day 28 that you are short.
- Diarize the expiration date. Reward credit has its own expiry, separate from the earning window. Find it under Coupon Progress, Details, Expiration and put it in a calendar.
- Check which ad products qualify. The Promotions page lists eligible products. Some credit is restricted, and assuming it covers everything is a common way to lose it.
- Do not let the credit pick the strategy. Spending into a format you would never fund at full price teaches you nothing that survives the subsidy.
For TikTok Shop sellers specifically, the strongest use of a spend window is amplifying creator content that has already earned organic traction, rather than cold brand video. You are buying distribution for a proven asset instead of paying to discover whether an asset works at all.
The offer is attached at registration, not after.
If you have not opened a TikTok advertiser account yet, check whether an incentive is live for your region before you create it. Once the account exists without one, that window is closed.
Why creator content outlasts the credit.
Ad credit is a one-time subsidy on a fixed clock. The thing that keeps working after it expires is a library of creator content and a roster of affiliates who post without being paid per placement.
This matters for sequencing. Brands that recruit creators first and then open an ad account walk into the earning window with proven video, real reviews, and organic signal to amplify. Brands that claim credit first often spend the window producing assets, which is the expensive way round.
On TikTok Shop the two compound. Affiliate creators produce the video, the best performers get boosted through Spark Ads or GMV Max, and the subsidy buys reach for content that was already converting. Creator content lowers the cost of the ads, and the ads extend the life of the content.
