Green Monday is a retail sales event held on the second Monday in December, falling on December 14 in 2026. It was named by eBay to describe the December Monday that consistently produced its strongest sales. It targets late gift buyers who still need delivery before Christmas, which makes it the last meaningful discount moment before shipping cutoffs close.
Green Monday is one of the few retail dates most sellers have heard of without knowing when it is or what it is for. It sits in a genuinely useful spot in the December calendar, which makes it worth understanding properly.
Green Monday is a discount event on the second Monday of December, aimed at shoppers who are buying gifts late but not so late that delivery has become impossible.
It sits in a gap. By mid-December the Black Friday and Cyber Monday noise has cleared, most brands have gone quiet, and a substantial group of shoppers has not finished buying gifts. Those shoppers have a specific anxiety that November shoppers do not: they need to know the item will actually arrive in time.
That makes Green Monday different in character from the November events. The November shopper is price-motivated. The mid-December shopper is deadline-motivated.
Green Monday 2026 is Monday, December 14.
Because the date is defined as the second Monday in December, it moves every year. The 2026 calendar around it:
That sequence is the whole point of the date. Green Monday lands three days before the main ground-shipping deadline, which is exactly enough time for a seller to dispatch and still deliver.
The name refers to money, not sustainability. eBay coined the term in 2007 after noticing that one particular Monday in December consistently ranked among its highest-revenue days of the year. Green meant revenue.
This is worth stating plainly because the assumption that it is an eco-friendly shopping event is extremely common, and acting on that assumption produces badly targeted marketing. There is no environmental angle to Green Monday.

The timing shapes the demand. What tends to do well:
What tends to struggle: anything bulky or slow to ship, anything made to order, and anything requiring a size or fit decision the buyer cannot make on someone else's behalf.
The honest constraint is that mid-December is too late to build anything new. A creator video requires somebody to receive a product, use it, film it, and post it, and that chain takes three to five weeks when shipping is not congested. In December it is longer.
So the plan has to work with what already exists.
Green Monday is useful, but the dates immediately after it are the ones that actually constrain your December.
Once the carrier deadlines pass, you are selling to people who have accepted the gift will arrive late, which is a much smaller and more price-sensitive group. The practical December sequence is: a mid-month push with delivery confidence as the hook, then a hard pivot in messaging once your cutoff passes, then post-Christmas clearance.
Deciding that pivot in advance is worth more than optimising Green Monday itself. The brands that handle late December well are the ones that changed their message on a planned date rather than quietly continuing to imply pre-Christmas delivery they could no longer provide.
For TikTok Shop sellers, Green Monday is a reminder that the Q4 calendar does not end when the BFCM campaign closes on November 30. There is a second, smaller demand window two weeks later, and it arrives when most competitors have stopped promoting. Lower competition against motivated buyers is a reasonable trade for a smaller audience.
The practical limitation is that December is an amplification month, not a recruiting month. Everything that makes a mid-December push possible, creators holding product, content already filmed, stock already in the warehouse, was put in place in October. A seller arriving at December 14 with no roster cannot build one in time, which is the same lesson Black Friday teaches three weeks earlier.
For agencies, the value of the date is that it is easy to forget. Clients are typically focused on BFCM, then exhausted by it, and the mid-December opportunity passes unused while the team is reconciling November. A standing December plan, even a modest one, captures demand that competitors have abandoned.
One caution on reporting. December revenue on TikTok Shop settles slowly, because the platform extends return windows over the holiday period. Items sold through December 31, 2026 can be returned until February 10, 2027, so a December result is provisional well into Q1 and should be communicated that way.
