A clear breakdown of the three ways US sellers can ship on TikTok Shop, written for brands deciding how to fulfill orders as they scale.
The three TikTok Shop shipping models
TikTok Shop's US logistics come in three flavors, designed for sellers at different stages and with different needs. The models differ mainly in how much of the shipping operation you own versus hand to TikTok:
- Seller Shipping. You keep full responsibility for inventory, packing, and carrier selection.
- TikTok Shipping. You ship from your own warehouse but use TikTok's negotiated carrier rates and labels.
- Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT). TikTok stores your inventory and ships every order from its own fulfillment centers.
Picking the right one is not about which is "best," it is about matching the model to your operation.
Seller Shipping: full control
Seller Shipping is the most hands-on model. You manage your own inventory, pack every order, and choose your own carrier rates, all while following TikTok's platform governance rules.
It is best suited for sellers who have:
- Specialized shipping requirements that off-the-shelf options do not handle well.
- Pre-existing carrier contracts with rates good enough that TikTok's negotiated rates would not beat them.
- An established warehouse and fulfillment team already running smoothly.
The upside is total control. The downside is total responsibility: dispatch speed, tracking, and delivery timeliness are all on you, and they all feed the fulfillment metrics TikTok scores you on.
TikTok Shipping and Collection by TikTok: your warehouse, TikTok's rates
TikTok Shipping is the middle path. You still ship from your own warehouse, but you tap TikTok's pre-negotiated carrier rates and label generation. It has two main options: Standard Delivery, available across the US, and Collection by TikTok (CBT).
Collection by TikTok (CBT) is a premium parcel-collection service for eligible sellers who ship from their own facilities. Its published benefits are concrete:
- Free door-to-door pickup. TikTok arranges free daily package pickup directly from your warehouse in eligible regions, so you skip manual drop-offs.
- Up to 30% cost savings compared to standard shipping rates.
- Guaranteed on-site scans. Parcels are scanned at the moment of pickup, giving real-time tracking visibility and protecting your Late Dispatch Rate (LDR) performance.
That last point is underrated. Because CBT scans parcels at pickup, it directly protects the dispatch metric that affects your shop health, which is a real operational advantage on top of the cost savings.
Fulfilled by TikTok: fully hands-off
Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) is the most hands-off model. You ship inventory into TikTok's fulfillment centers once, and TikTok handles storage, picking, packing, and shipping for every order after that.
FBT is best when:
- You want fulfillment completely off your plate, with no packing or carrier management.
- You are worried about dispatch speed hurting your metrics, since TikTok fulfills the order inside its own network.
- You are a smaller or TikTok-first seller, helped by FBT's self-service onboarding and no minimum order requirements.
The tradeoff is control and channel flexibility: FBT centers on TikTok Shop orders, so multi-channel brands often prefer a 3PL that serves every channel from one inventory pool.
How to choose your shipping model
There is no single right answer. Match the model to your situation:
- Choose Seller Shipping if you already have a warehouse and carrier contracts that beat TikTok's rates, or genuinely specialized shipping needs.
- Choose TikTok Shipping / CBT if you run your own warehouse but want better rates, free pickup, and dispatch-scan protection for your LDR.
- Choose FBT if you want fulfillment fully handled and you are mostly selling on TikTok Shop.
- Consider a third-party 3PL if you sell across TikTok Shop, Amazon, and Shopify and want one inventory pool feeding all channels, plus flexible creator-sample fulfillment.
Your volume, your margins, your channel mix, and your creator-sample workflow all factor in.
Why this matters for TikTok Shop brands and agencies
Shipping is not a neutral back-office choice on TikTok Shop, because the model you pick directly affects the fulfillment metrics that determine your shop health and payout speed. CBT's pickup scans protecting your LDR, or FBT taking dispatch off your plate entirely, are not just conveniences, they are ways to keep the metrics green that decide how fast you get paid and how visible your shop stays.
For brands scaling with creators, the sample-fulfillment angle deserves special attention. TikTok's shipping models are built primarily around buyer orders, but a real creator program also ships product to individual creators at bespoke addresses. That is a different flow, and it is the one that most often outgrows a setup designed only for checkout orders.
Whatever shipping model you run for buyer orders, your creator-sample process needs to keep pace with how many creators you seed. Hubfluence runs the creator side of TikTok Shop and hands samples off cleanly to your fulfillment layer, whether that is CBT, FBT, or a 3PL, so creator approvals turn into shipped samples without manual address entry.
